OVERVIEW
The ICON is a portable, ruggedized field recorder for uncompressed acquisition (DPX) of data or video from digital cinema cameras. The recorder system consists of two units: the recorder body, and the media pack ("data magazine"). In the image above, you can see the recorder body occupies the lower 2/3 of the system, and the media pack docks on top of the recorder body.
The concept behind all of Colorspace's products is one of modularity. The ICON is no exception, being extremely modular in design. Media packs can be based on solid state technologies. Even the recorder body itself is highly modular, with removable touchscreen allowing for solo operator or first assistant configurations, as well as assignable hard buttons, power button, and record button located on both sides. Mount it upside down, sideways, in a crash cage, however you please. Following the theme of modularity, the ICON is software driven, and designed to be updated via the Compact Flash slot on the input panel. As our development improves the featureset of the ICON, existing owners won't be left behind, because software updates will be available directly for download.
